About

Handmade, festival of making

Handmade, now in its fifth year, is a festival of making based exclusively in Wellington each Queen’s Birthday weekend.

Created by Melanie and her team at Avenues, Handmade tells Wellington’s creative story to the rest of the world through hands-on experiences ranging from sculpture, dumplings and screen-printing, to apothecary, graphic design and leatherwork.

Starting from humble beginnings five years ago, Handmade provides the opportunity to learn with some of New Zealand’s most influential creative minds in the heart of the creative capital. What started as small making event has now evolved into an appreciation of all craftsmanship and the talented people within our creative industries.

2015 saw over 60 workshops on offer from a wide range of talented people including the likes of Weta Workshop, Ruth Pretty and Tamsin Cooper.
