Sew Yourself a Shoulder Bag

Taught by Heleen Webb
7971_270_315

Create your own one-off shoulder bag with Heleen Webb. In this two-part workshop, you become the designer by adjusting the pattern to your own requirements. Learn how to insert zips, piping, inner pockets and how to make a strap.

This workshop runs in two 2-hour blocks: 9am – 11am (Part 1) and 2pm – 4pm (Part 2), giving you a break in between to talk sewing with your fellow makers! Suitable for those with experience using a sewing machine.

What to Bring

  • Outer fabric: .5m of upholstery-weight or denim fabric (for a two-tone bag like in the photo, bring 2 complementary fabrics, .25m each)

    Lining: 50cm of quilting-weight cotton

30cm zip (a dress zip or heavier)

Optional: 1m of piping or bias binding (to go with outer fabric)

Optional: 1m (for shoulder bag) or 1.5m (for messenger bag) of woven strapping, 3-5cm wide

    Sharp scissors, pins, matching thread

A pack of denim sewing machine needles (100/16)

If you have a rotary cutter, quilting ruler and self-healing cutting mat, you might want to bring it along.

A limited range of fabric and materials will be available for purchase from the teacher ($10 – 30, depending on fabric)
