- Yarn (4 py or 8 ply) in two contrasting colours
- Needles in a size to suit the yarn in either double-point or a long circular for magic loop knitting – participants must be familiar with knitting in the round
- The usual knitting kit: scissors, a marker or two, etc
- Pen and paper
